I still cannot get over how a company I have been with for 40 years has had the audacity to cancel my credit card when I told them I would be able to clear the amount owing I was honest about my plans and still the lady talking to me  followed her companies tick box system ... giving me zero leverage...not unhappy if this company folds with BREXIT I was not concerned about this as to me the debt was under control ..going to complain to the Ombudsman ..it won't change anything but I do,not think I can just let this pass so furious about the lack of customer care and total distrust ..I have always paid minimum payments that's in the contract frankly disgusted with M&S

Because their audacity is based on lending criteria and profitability.  They can afford to be audacious when they have many more suitable customers available.

You're just a little too high risk for them.

But there will be other lenders for you.

Why do we need part 2 when part 1 has only a few replies...
You owe them money. New regulations mean they have to take action. Stopping your card is one way to stop you spending more and making the situation worse. Clearly you must still be spending or you would not be so wound up about it. The fact that you are selling your house at some point means very little to them at the present.

1985, St Michael Financial Services is launched in Chester, recruiting 80 staff. The M&S Chargecard is launched.

It's becoming clearer by the minute why they've cancelled your account.

Actually they have been offering credit for that long, the original version was a cheque book and guarantee card you used in store. M&S were late adopters when it came to taking credit cards but when they did they migrated existing customers over to a card.
I had an account from 1980 to around 2014, I only closed the account because they wouldn't allow a monthly DD that paid the entire balance off.

I'm actually disappointed I didn't get any at Christmas, same goes for the socks - they're good quality!

As for the credit card I've never had an issue with them so presume they've been upset some way to proceed with account closure.
