Complaint about VW T-Roc

Hello all!
On opening the bonnet on my 18 month on VW T-Roc and lifting the lever that holds it up by 30cm, it snapped off its connection.
VW are telling me this isn’t covered under warranty and will cost £850 to repair! I’ve complained to customer care and now escalated it to the case manager.
Surely an 18 month old car should not break like this? The dealership have opened the bonnet more than I have! Any advice on how to proceed? I just don’t accept that this is my fault. I’m not stupid, I know how to open a bloody bonnet.

You are going to have to prove your assertions after 6 months .Usual is via an Independent report .0

You opened your bonnet in these strong winds....Life in the slow lane0

... is relevant to the support lever breaking how exactly? OP doesn't say they'd even got as far as securing it to the bonnet to keep it open.born_again said:You opened your bonnet in these strong winds....1 -
Well think of a area like a bonnet only being held by a small bit of metal rod. In strong winds it could easily break.DoaM said:

OP says very little in post so at best its a guess. Not even what damage was done for £850 REPAIR BILL.Life in the slow lane0 -
I didn’t even get it that far...I lifted the lever by 30cm and it snapped before I even attached it to the bonnet. Plus it was about a fortnight ago when there was a light breeze not this crazy !!!!!! weatherDoaM said:

It means that after 6 months the onus is on you to prove it's an inherent fault. That normally means having someone independent inspect it and write a report. If their judgement is that the fault is inherent (eg a dodgy weld) then you have a case with the seller for a remedy such as a repair.0
