I thought Windows 7 support had ended, but this update is dated 7/2/2020...

Microsoft is attempting to fix some assorted screw-ups in the so-called Final Update, I suspect.

The final quality rollup was in January.
What's the KB number of the update you received?

There will be the odd security update that can cause security issues for other windows users.
XP had a few updates long after its EOL date.

This is related to the issue of users' wallpaper appearing black when stretching an image.  This bug was introduced in a recent security fix.
I'd recommend not installing previews -- they are intended for testing and feedback before the "fully tested" version is released.
