Lionbridge - Social media

I applied for a part time role with Lionbridge. They asked me to supply a link to my FaceBook profile ( don't know if they want other sites , I stopped at that point) . I only recently set up a FaceBook page and don't have any followers , is this likely to go against me ? Would I be better to try and build it up before applying for any of these jobs. ? Does anyone know what's considered an acceptable number of followers/ friends ?
Also how vanilla do they expect you to be ? I'm thinking more about Twitter here . I've never abused anyone, or been banned , but I have had disagreements and suggested that women don't have penises ....

So the question is, do they mind transphobic people working for them? I’m not sure anyone would reasonably know. But I expect many people would be interested to know once you find out.2021 GC £1365.71/ £24001

So you have made transphobic comments but you haven’t abused anyone? Okay!Since you brought it up, some women do have penises. Some men have vaginas. Biological sex does not direct your gender.
I know little about Lionbridge. Maybe they are close minded, and you’ll be fine. If they are progressive then they won’t want ignorant people working for them.0 -
Avoiding the whole debate - as this is an employment subforum.
Surely the easier answer is - i dont use facebook?1 -

Thank s for answering Comms.
The work is to do with monitoring online ads , so I think they probably want to know that people understand the platform and can use it. Also , since I had already set up an account I assume it will show upif they google my name ?

@ Brassic & Katrina - I don't want to get into a debate on this but just to clarify ,I made that comment in a discussion about access to safe places , i.e. hostels , refuges , women only wards in mental health units , in response to some irrational comments from TRA zealots. I have nothing against trans people but there are basic protections for vulnerable girls and women that are being abandoned to pacify a vocal minority (and a handful of men with bad motives) , helped by people like you who think you're being 'progressive' but mostly haven't bothered to think through the implications and prefer to take the easy option.
Anyway , as somebody already pointed out , this is an employment sub forum so I'm not going to engage in any more discussion on this subject. Don't bother me with your shallow virtue signalling.0 -
You were the one that asked the question in your opening post........aife said:@ Brassic & Katrina - I don't want to get into a debate on this but just to clarify ,I made that comment in a discussion about access to safe places , i.e. hostels , refuges , women only wards in mental health units , in response to some irrational comments from TRA zealots. Just because somebody has answered that and you don't agree with them doesn't make it "virtue signalling"!
Ultimately, with a very few exceptions prohibited by law, a prospective employer can ask you what they like. The can also insist on access to your social media accounts and / or other publications. If you refuse they are unlikely to employ you. If you deny having such accounts or publications and they later find out they can sack you for gross misconduct. If you don't like any lawful terms they offer then you are free to work for somebody you find more attractive - if they will have you.1 -
Maybe you aren't very good at putting your point across eloquently then. You can make comments about the necessity of biologically female/male only spaces (which I absolutely agree with in many cases, and any genuine transgender person would be more than happy with that) without needing to make blanket ignorant and untrue statements such as 'women don't have penises'aife said:@ Brassic & Katrina - I don't want to get into a debate on this but just to clarify ,I made that comment in a discussion about access to safe places , i.e. hostels , refuges , women only wards in mental health units , in response to some irrational comments from TRA zealots. This is why this forum here is as far as I will venture into (anti)social media territory. Talk about Big Brother is watching you! Still, I guess if zero hours "contracts" are legal, so is online snooping by prospective employers. If someone asked me for such access I would tell them the truth namely, that I am not prepared to swim in the online equivalent of raw sewage to suit them. Road to Hell? I think we're knocking on the door.
Good luck in your job search, OP, I think you are going to need it. This whole thread sounds like a bad sci-fi novel to me which does not mean I doubt you for one second. I have been waiting for something like this; it is the stuff of nightmares, imho.1 -

Try working in a sensitive or high security environment then!
Not working for a particular employer is your choice. Why should an employer assessing who they employ in some detail not be their choice?
As I said earlier their are a few questions they are not legally allowed to ask. Beyond that it is totally up to them.0 -
No problem with an employer doing all the checks they deem necessary right up to the point where it invades my privacy. Do you actually think it acceptable that an employer, let alone merely a prospective one, thinks they can force someone to sign up to Fakelook just to snoop? We'll have to disagree then.
Guess it must be my age but I remember the days when signing certain Acts (not just the one everyone signs), providing references and being interviewed was deemed sufficient.2
