Data breach

Hi. I recently offered to be a guarantor for a friend on a rental property. The company did a credit check on me and the results were unfavourable as I thought they would be.
However the company in question then told my friend that they have never seen a rating so low and that I'm in a  lot of debt. Is this allowed?
Manynthanks

Depends on the terms you agreed to, they might allow for them disclosing the reason for the decline with the friend.
  • I would understand if they had said that I didn't pass the credit check, no issue with that but to embellish it by saying i have the worst credit rating they have ever seen and that I am in loads of debt seems an  unnecessary sharing of personal information.

I would very much doubt they are allowed to give such detailed information. GDPR not only governs the accessing of data but also how it is handled. All that they needed to tell your friend was "sorry the guarantor did not pass our credit referencing"
  • That's the way I see it.
