Outside of 30 Days due to Manufacturer Dragging Warranty Process Out

I'm after some guidance - feel like I'm in a no win situation, so thought id ask....

  • Was bought a present for Christmas by my partner - purchased on the 1st December 2019 via Argos website.
  • Got the present, was a wireless gaming headset, and had issues with it repeatedly disconnecting.
  • 12th Jan - I started a support ticket on the manufacturer's website to try and get it resolved. Long story short they offered no advice and took me through a warranty claim to destroy my existing unit and get another one shipped from them (during this process copies of receipts were supplied along with photos etc.)
  • This unit arrived with me last week and after testing is still doing exactly the same. The support ticket is still open,  I have fed this back and have been told it was environment issues in my house (terraced house, two people, 4 wireless devices total, Virgin BB on hub3 @ 200mb) which I find hard to accept.
  • I have asked for a solution or a refund to be told they cannot refund as not bought from them. Argos purchase was two months ago so cannot return to them as well.

Can anyone give advice on how to proceed? Feel like I am going to end up with a not fit for purpose product for no reason of my own

Thanks

Mr T

Why not? It's faulty. The "change of mind" return time limits aren't relevant.

If it's faulty of course you can take it back to Argos.

Before you try and return then you need to establish that there faulty by trying them at a friends house or somewhere, once you confirmed that you'll have the right to a refund as the first pair and replacement are both faulty
If they work elsewhere then there not faulty and you’ve no rights to return

    Can they though?
The headset that Argos supplied has now been destroyed and a replacement sent out so unless Argos advised the OP to go directly to the manufacturer, Argos themselves may no longer have any liability.

When you are using the headset are you in the same room as the router?
What level of wireless signal do you get on a phone in the same location.

We have had Virgin before and the WiFi from the router was so bad we had to get extenders so daughter could use WiFi on her phone/laptop. Got sky now and its fine without extenders even though it is the same location.

WiFi at best can be very flaky

  • One thing I don't understand about your thread title.
If the headset was purchased on the 1st December and you didn't open a support ticket on the manufacturers website until the 12th January (42 days after purchase), how did the manufacturers drag the warranty process out to mean that you had gone beyond any 30 day limit with Argos?

    Is this a bluetooth headset?.
  • Ill try and return to Argos over weekend and see what they say.

    To answer some of questions:-

When you are using the headset are you in the same room as the router?  Less than 2m away from console and 2.5 from router
What level of wireless signal do you get on a phone in the same location? Full connection (ipad & iPhone). Live in terrrance house and get full connection all over

how did the manufacturers drag the warranty process out to mean that you had gone beyond any 30 day limit with Argos?  Argos double their return policy for 30 days after Christmas due to large amount of good bought being presents (verified on argos website)

Is this a bluetooth headset?. - No Connects as a device - On a Xbox one - Same as wireless controller (which I have no issue with)
