There is no requirement for Kia parts to be used. All that is required is that the parts are of the same specification and an equal or higher quality than Kia parts.born_again said:You are going to have to get the service doc's from the other garage that serviced the car. Or you will not get any warranty cover. The garage will have to have serviced & used Kia standard parts.
I see a lot of posts like this on kia forums. And the number of cars sold with full service history, but are not in line with Kia's timescales.
Many people think great 7 year warranty. Not realising that it's void in many cases as the car has not been serviced either every 12 months or in the mileage range if a heavy user.Life in the slow lane0 -
...or not by dealers, because who takes a 4-5-6yo car to a franchise dealer...? So the warranty may or may not be void, but it's up to you prove it.born_again said:I see a lot of posts like this on kia forums. And, of course, what's going to go wrong on a 6-7yo car that isn't attributable to wear and tear, anyway? Genuine manufacturing faults will have shaken themselves out LOOOONG before that.0 -
Still no reply from the local dealer about warranty documentation, even after 5 phone calls and visiting the showroom and leaving a message with receptionist.
Not sure about my legal rights above item 1. Is the dealer obliged to keep his sale agreement on the invoice. Since the sale was mis-sold / fraudulent.
Anyone? Thanks again.0 -
Fraudulent is a big word to be banded about and one that should only be used advisedly.0

Miss sold depends on what the selling dealer said.
Kia does have a 7 year warranty. The issue is where it is something that relates to a service item, then to keep it going it needs to be serviced in line with Kia time/mileage limits.
I know of cases where LED daytime lights have been replaced under warranty despite not having any service record.Life in the slow lane0 -
I'm not convinced its the gearbox. and the oil it might well be spec'd for 60K miles, often is in KIA/Hyundai so the "who changed it" discussion may be irrelevant.
I'd be jacking it up and spinning the wheels to listen to the bearings, joints, checking the boots etc first.0 -
I've just bought a used Kia.
I forgot to check the service history, but Kia advised the following in writing (via a twitter DM)
"incorrect maintenance won't automatically invalidate the warranty, however if any issues arise and they are linked back to incorrect maintenance then that particular claim would be invalidated"
In other words, if the service records aren't great I should be OK for any warranty claim for a non-service item (EG Radio)
Conversely if I try a claim for a service item (engine), I may be screwed.1 -
Really appreciate this - can you confirm which KIA twitter account you contacted please?BOWFER said:I've just bought a used Kia.

Im still in limbo over whether this is a clutch (wear and tare) / gear box (warranty) issue, and having a debate with the local dealership over sale of warranty.
I also appreciate from a mechanics perspective, parts need dissembled to troubleshoot, and conclude on the faulting part.
I dont want KIA to take the car for a clutch replacement, to the tidy cost of £487.50, for them to turn around and say hmmmm... well actually its the gear box 'show me your warranty'.
