OK guys, bear with me, I've only got basic computer knowledge.:D
Bought a new computer and can't seem to get my monitor working with it. (I only bought the base computer, the monitor is my own, not new)
Basically I plug everything in the correct place, I can hear the computer starting up, but my monitor just shows a black screen.
There is power to it, because a box comes up saying 'power saving mode' and then all is black.
The cables are connected properly and in the right place.
I'm on old computer now with the same monitor and the screen is working fine.
New computer is using windows vista and monitor is a LG flatron L1715S.
On this computer I'm using windows XP
could this be the problem?
Is the vista not recognising my monitor?
I do have a cd driver for the monitor, but without the monitor working in the first place, can't get it loaded.
I hope someone can help.

Sounds like its not peoperly connected to video/garhics card on the pc or the card isnt working properly0

As noted above your monitor isn't getting a signal. Can you try another lead? If no joy it's a problem with your new pc - can you call them under warranty? Is your new pc using on-board graphics? This is built into the motherboard of pc, and would require a re-build. Does pc use a graphics card? This could be swapped out to check quite easily- but if under warranty you shouldn't have to go thro it.0

if it's the same lead and same monitor that's working elsewhere it's something to do with the other computer.
Does the new computer have a seperate graphics card or is it on the motherboard?0 -
Thanks for your answers guys.
The PC has a dedicated graphics card 256Mb geforce 8400GS PCX, if thats any help.
And I only got the pc today so have a years return to base warrenty, which is at a shop in the next town.
Funny thing is though, I'd only just returned another new computer I'd got because that did exactly the same and I thought it was the pc that was faulty.
Now don't scream at me, I got it from pc world:eek: I know, I know, I was tempted by the ease and price, but as soon as I bought it, I knew I'd made a mistake.
Well anyway, the pc world pc did exactly the same thing, blank screen on monitor, seperate graphics card and vista with that one as well.
So I took that one back and got my money back and definately no more of that shop for me.
I then went and got this new pc from a local independant shop.
So thats why I wonder if there's a problem with the monitor, but it's working fine just now with my old pc?
I'm gonna try again and check the plugs are in the correct place, and try and search for another lead.0 -
I think you've got it, their are probably two monitor sockets on the back of the new PC and OP has picked the wrong one, its probably the one in the PCI slots.
Is it a Dell perchance?
If so are you plugging in to the vertical blue connector above the USBs, or the horizontal one next to the DVI connector? That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Press f8 when your computer starts (keep pressing it if you need to) and boot your computer into safe mode. If this works then your monitor may not be set to plug & play.
Had this prob before.
Post back if it works or if it does not0 -
Just want to say thanks for all your help.
I've finally got it. Hurray.
I got the monitor working last night, I had it plugged into the vertical slot and not the pci slot, the horizontal one (I take it thats where my graphics card is?) I'm learning.:D
Anyway, then I had problems getting online.
Well I sussed that one out by downloading new drivers for my modem whilst on my old computer and after eventually loading it onto the new pc in the right order (that took a few goes) and voila, I've just got online.
So thanks very much again, I'm now off to catch up on all the competitions I've missed.
Now I've only got to set up my e-mail account:eek:

Glad you got it sorted, I did the same thing myself with the Dell, and I thought I knew what I was doing. That gum you like is coming back in style.0
