Question Regarding Ebay / PayPal Fees

It's been a long time since I sold anything on eBay and never anything of great value. Recently I sold an item with sold for £450 but with shipping and taxes to the USA the total cost was £514. My PayPal invoice shows PayPal collected the US tax of £30 and also deducted a fee of £25.....I thought that the 'fee' was ebay and Paypal fees combined. However I've just been nosing around my eBay seller account and have found that there is 'new activity not yet invoiced' of £48. So it looks like total offtakes are £68 on an item which sold for £450.... does this seem about right? Maybe I'm out of touch, but these fees seem a bit steep to me..... (as I said, it's been along time since I've sold an item on eBay)

Ebay fees, assuming not listed during an offer, are 10%.
Paypal fees are 2.9% plus 30p. Paypal take the fees straight away, ebay don't. So £68 would be about right for total fees.2 -
Thanks for your reply and giving the eBay and PayPal percentage fees. Very useful and much appreciated! (to me, it still seems a big chunk out of the origial sale price)

If you plan on selling anything else over £10 you're best off waiting for an offer. Ebay have been doing them frequently and it's been maximum £1 final value fee (free to list). Just watch out as it's good til cancelled now which means they automatically relist it each month and the offer doesn't count on the automatic relist, only the first month. You can cancel and relist it yourself next time there's an offer though (assuming it hasn't already sold).
Paypal fee remains the same and is not part of the offer. For items that are worth more it's a big saving if you can list under the offer.1 -
Good info. I'll certainly keep that it mind! Thanks
