PS4 8mth old has developed faults

Hi
We have a PS4 purchased from Argos on 22 May 2019, unfortunately it has developed several error codes and I have followed Sony Playstation for their fixes but they haven't worked. We can now not turn the PS4 on at all. I contacted Argos and explained the PS4 is faulty. They have told me that I need to speak to Sony and get it confirmed as faulty with a reference number which I then need to give to Argos before they will even discuss anything about repair/replacement.
I am really hoping for some advice as to where I stand regarding this issue and what to expect next.
Thanks

What Argos are asking for is a reasonable request and in line with the Consumer Rights act.
This act states that when a fault occurs more than 6 months from the time of purchase, the retailer can insist that the purchaser proves that a fault exists and that this fault is due to a manufacturing defect and isn't down to misuse. Although you are not obligated to get this proof from Sony themselves, they may accept a telephone or internet communication giving details of the fault codes and issue confirmation of the fault from this.
Once you have this, send it to Argos and see what their response is,1 -
Thank you for your reply, I have sent Sony all the error codes and hopefully be able to speak to them tomorrow0
