Council Tax No Banding

Good afternoon,
So, I have moved into a new build in October 2019. I contacted the council to register our council tax and they informed me the property wasn't banded and I will be informed via post when its completed.
However, if they do not band my property by April 2020, do I still have to pay from October 2019? Or will it start a fresh?

I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
We moved into a new build about 15 months ago. The council were very slow at telling the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) to band our house. Are you sure the council have asked the VOA to band the property? This what slowed us down. The VOA wouldn't do anything until the council had formally told them to band it. Once the house was banded you should get a bill but again do fell free to chase your council like we did as they don't seem to do anything as they know they can backdate your bills. Some people on our estate did not get banded for 18 months and had a rather big bill to pay.0

Exeter Council advised us to pay something on account while we were waiting for banding. It only took a couple of months in the end."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0

We moved into a new-build in November. It's only just been banded, and I only know that because I checked the national database. Eventually the news will filter back to my council, who'll produce a bill. Our neighbours moved in in August and there's hasn't been done yet.
It takes ages, and as and when it happens you will get a back-bill to the date you moved in. Work out what band it's most likely to be and put that amount of money aside each month in readiness.
You can check your postcode here to see when your property appears: http://cti.voa.gov.uk/cti/inits.asp

Look for a similar house on the estate and check the band for that one.0

Last time we bought a new build it was 23 months before the council sent a CT bill - luckily we had looked at the VOA site, entered the postcode and seen what similar houses had been banded, then looked on the council website and found what the CT would be for a band higher and put that amount aside.
When the bill finally did arrive, it was for the band we had saved for, so the first thing we did was appeal the banding then paid the council bill.
About 2 months - I think - later, had notice of successful appeal and property was rebanded lower and a nice, welcome CT rebate was had in the form of a cheque from the council.0 -
That would have happened under the old domestic rating system which ended in March 1990, but not under CTMikegcope said:Thanks for your help all..
