Washing machine transit bolts

The bolts were extremely tight to remove, when I got two of them out, it broke a bit of plastic off from inside that the bolts screwed into. It works fine, is this normal or do I need it looking at.

Without knowing what machine & the arrangement of the transit bolts it's impossible to say. The first thing to check is that you've removed the right bits, I know it sounds daft but those of us who've worked in the trade have seen everything! Without any further info I'd say if it works fine & doesn't make too much noise then it's probably fine. If you post what machine it is someone with up to date knowledge may be able to help more.

  • Hotpoint NSWM943CGGUK. Here’s images of bits that broke off. All works fine with no noise.

I'm not up to date with Hotpoints, I haven't worked for them for nearly 20 years. They look like part of the drum mouldings, as long as nothing else is supposed to be connected to those bits it should be OK. As I said, hopefully someone more up to date will be along later.

I'd contact Hotpoint and ask, include your pictures. The transit bolts are designed to be removed and replaced if necessary.
In the second picture the side has broken away. Its possible the bolts are wider than they should be, this would make them difficult to remove and could break the surrounding plastic.

Looks ok I think bolt and plastic is supposed to come out. Op should have plastic insert circular covers to push in to cover holes.

  • Pop the lid off and check where the bolt came from.  If the plastic has come away without leaving any holes which water could escape from, then in theory it should be fine.  However I wouldn't like to have a new machine knowing that it's damaged before I've even put the plug in, so I'd give Hotpoint an earful and mention that it doesn't give you any confidence about the machine's build quality.
