Can I combine my electricity and gas supplies? Two properties that I bought as one

Options
I have just moved into my first flat (yay!). It is one property that used to be two and so has separate gas and electric metres and supplies in each half.
I'm a bit worried about the expense of 4 separate utility bills. Does anybody know of a way to combine them so I'm just paying for one set of gas and electricity?
Thanks!

You need to get trades in to sort out the wiring and plumbing so everything runs off one meter set.  You then get the supplier to disconnect and / or  remove the supply.  All this will of course be at your cost. Paying for 2 supplies may be the cheaper option.

The only disadvantage is that you are paying 4 lots of standing charges. So for example if you are on 15p per day per supply that's an extra £11 a year for the 2 extra supplies and at 20p per day per supply that's an extra £15  a year.  So it could take you 20 or more years to get your money back if you get the meters removed.

  • Thanks for the responses. Seems like it is cheaper to just stay with the 4 sets of utilities.

  • 15p x 100 obviously equals £15.
How many days do you think there are in a year?

nottsphil I stand corrected, decimal point in wrong place so for two supplies @15p per day that would be about £110 per year and it would it would only take a few years to get the costs of trades people back.
