You'll need a B+E category on your licence, or a very light caravan.
The caravan club do a great practical caravanning course.  I wish I'd done it earlier.
There are lots of damp caravans out there.  Read up on damp tests!

    Hi Marlot,

Thanks for the info. my Car is 1500kg, and the Caravan would be 1200kg max, and 990kg unladen (so yes, light) so I'm good with my B license.

I will be looking into a course though as I whilst my confidence tells me I'll do a good job, looking outside to Storm Ciara suggests I should at least see what the pros say huh :)

We're getting a 12 month guarantee, including damp and ingress, plus we've had it damp tested too, but you're right, it seems damp is the cancer of caravans.

You've got some paperwork related to the company car? Invoice, proof of insurance or something?
If so I'd be tempted to pop into a few motor factors / caravan shops and see if they'll take the paperwork?
It used to be you could buy plates from eBay without proof (I've had various trailer plates done, last was a year ago).

Another thing to check is that the car can actually tow 1200kg (because it's the number of the plate that counts, not the actual weight, unless you passed after (I think) 2015). What's the GTW and GVW on the plate on the door sill?

We have been towing a caravan for the past few years and love spending time away in it.
Be aware that there are two systems to connect the electrics to the car so have adaptors when going to collect.  Plus some caravans have ATC which for me is a huge plus, it applies the caravan brakes when sway is detected.  Another thing is to check the age of the tyres, they will have a date letter and often caravans have very old/dangerous tyres on.
