Warranty problem

Hi All,
Really need some advice with this one please.
I purchased a notebook in July 2019 for my granddaughter for a Christmas present, bit early I know, but I wanted to get her present out of the way. When she opened Christmas day all was great needed charging but working fine, she did not over use it as she had other presents to open. She then used it a couple of times more, before it needed charging, but It would not charge, the light came on , but nothing. Got in touch with the company I purchased it from on the internet, only to be told under there warranty I had to send it back at a cost to me of £15 as it was past the 14 days I would be liable for the return fee? They would repair it. I quiet honestly just want my money back now as it seems buying a reconditioned notebook is not the way to go.
I really do not know where I stand where this is concerned, all help would be very much appreciated.

    Your consumer rights are against the retailer, not the manufacturer.
    Manufacturers usually offer a warranty, but it can include any terms they like.  So if they say you have to pay for return postage, then that's what you have to do.
    Unfortunately, over 6 months have passed since you bought the notebook, so if you want to claim from the retailer than it's up to you to show that the notebook had an inherent fault at the time it was sold to you.  Some retailers may be unhelpful, and not insist on an independent expert report, but some may not.  You would have to ask them.
    If it sticks, force it.
    If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
  • The problem is going to either be with the laptop or the battery/power supply.  I would suggest taking it to a computer repair shop and ask them to check out where the problem is.  If its the power supply you can just replace it.  I have bought 2 second hand laptops that needed new batteries/power supply. If they aren't used properly (and often aren't), batteries stop working. It should not have been supplied to you that way but now the 6 months is up and the laptop probably wasn't hugely expensive, its probably best to just hope its the problem I have indicated.

    Have you tried removing the battery and replacing it (if that's possible on the model)?  An old laptop of mine had an intermittent problem like yours and just removing and replacing the battery solved it.
