Prepaid card recommendations
The main requirement is no monthly or annual fee. Don't mind a fee for issuance, but if it's free then all the better.
Not fussed on the costs for withdrawing cash as it will be mainly for online usage where I don't wish to have any further transactions on the account after the initial one, such as signing up to free trials/services where they get your card details etc. Don't need any frills; cashback etc
I used to have a Pockit card which did the job, but then they decided to turn that into a pseudo "bank account" and charge a 99p fee every month just to have the account open!

Revolut has no FSCS protection. Mind you, I am not sure whether any of the prepaid cards do have it.creon said:Revolut, I have this pre paid card for my young son.

Not good to "condition" youngsters to ignore FSCS.0 -
Revolut despite the lack of protection. Check the referral forum here for a free £9 too
It isn’t about conditioning younger to ignore FSCS - but a prepaid card is different to a current account and you wont get that protection anyway - surely they aren’t chucking a lot of money in there?0 -
No, it probably won't be big amounts of money on the prepaid card, but in %age terms it can be a lot. Like 100% of a youngster's weekly or monthly pocket money.blakemansarah said:Revolut despite the lack of protection. Check the referral forum here for a free £9 too

Revolut is not a "prepaid card" because it still requires the same level of ID to open as a bank account does, so that counts me out.0

Why would it count you out? It isn't a bank account, it will not appear on your credit record as far as I know.jasonwatkins said:Revolut is not a "prepaid card" because it still requires the same level of ID to open as a bank account does, so that counts me out.0 -
It counts me out because I do not have a passport or driving licence, both of which are required to open this so-called "prepaid" account. Most prepaid accounts I've looked in to either require an up-front payment for the card or have various monthly fees.London7766551 said:

You just open the account and you're off and running.
Revolut require you to jump through the usual hoops that you have to jump through if you're applying for a full current account.0 -
Here we go ..
Why do I need to verify my identity? You need to verify your identity in order to use your Revolut account. This policy is in line with a banking regulation commonly known as 'Know Your Customer’ (KYC) or 'Customer Due Diligence' (CDD) and is the process of a business verifying the identity of its clients. It is simply an anti-corruption and fraud measure.
