Accidental duplicate application cancellation fee

I applied for the virgin money balance transfer card on my iPhone and got an error message saying something went wrong so I thought application didn’t go through and applied again. They processed two and overpaid my credit cards and said I have to pay £60 to cancel one

  • Yes. 2 transfers. When I initially applied the error message that appeared on my phone said said something went wrong after I hit the submit button so I thought the application didn’t go through. There was no success screen message, no confirmation email or text message so I applied again and they over paid my credit cards double the amount to Vanquis and Amazon New Day and sent me 2 credit cards. When I rang Virgin  they said I applied twice so got two cards and they would agree to recall one and cancel as I’m within the cooling off period but I will have to pay a £60 admin charge
  • It feels unfair because I didn’t do anything wrong. I simply repeated the application as I thought the page had crashed and they failed to acknowledge the first application u til 3 days later
  • I applied for balance transfer card as it’s cheaper than a loan. I actually wanted to use my Vanquis or Amazon New Day to pay off V12 Finance on a fridge freezer but they said I can’t pay credit with credit but could take a debit card payment so I asked New Day for a cash transfer to my bank account before going ahead with the virgin application as it would be cheaper than withdrawing cash in multiple transactions and then paying it into my bank account BUT then Vanquis cancelled the cash transfer because they said they wanted to see my bank statement for the bank account into which the cash transfer would go. They didn’t tel me they cancelled the request. Just that they put it on hold because there was an address discrepancy and they needed to check the bank account t belonged to me. They sent me an upload link to upload Passport or driving. Licence ID and I uploaded my passport but they said they couldn’t open the pdf and to post it with my bank statement which I did. Meanwhile the double virgin applications were processed and then Vanquis said they had verified my bank account and ID and I heard nothing more and rang them and they said the cash transfer was cancelled and couldn’t be progressed because my account is in credit.

    You could ask them to waive the fee as a good will gesture, saying that the second application has a result of a fault with *their* app.  They may or may not do so, but it costs nothing to ask.
