Travel insurance - same outward dates, different return dates - advice?

My adult daughter and I are shortly travelling to Canada. We are going out there together but she is staying longer than me. Do we book separate travel insurance (so that we can put the differing dates on each trip) or on the same policy (so that if there is a problem with one of us, the other one is covered)? Or do we get a joint annual policy?
I can't be the first with this problem but I can't find an answer anywhere!
Thank you!

How much longer is she staying out there?
Surely you could just put your return date the same as hers unless its vastly different?
