Old bank won't allow a switch; next best steps?

I tried to switch to HSBC to get the £175 deal, but received a letter saying my bank won't allow it (RBS One account).
I could do with ideas on what I should do about this. I was considering opening a third account, manually transferring stuff to it and setting up a couple of standing orders; then switching from THAT to HSBC. But it's a whole lot of hassle.
My other option is to keep the HSBC account since I've gone through the rigmarole of setting it up & security etc. Then manually switch and cut my losses, but at least be in a place where I can take care of future switch deals...
Can anyone advise and pro's/cons that I may be missing; or any other ideas altogether? I guess my main ambition is to get out of the account I have right now, after finding out it doesn't allow switches.

Open another account with RBS, set up 2x SOs and switch that.
You've done the hard work in getting an HSBC account up and running. Now reap the reward!

Perhaps because it is a secured current account connected to a mortgage?

It's because it is not a current account but an offset mortgage account

I called them earlier today and asked if I could just transfer it all to a RBS current account and she told me they couldn't...
  • I would do the option of the manual switch as you said you have gone through all that setup and imo i think HSBC offer a good bank service but they all have there pros and cons.

    You misunderstand.

Open a completely new current account with RBS.

Put two nice and easy SOs on it, and let them pay out once.

Ask HSBC to switch the new account.

Then transfer your DDs etc manually from the One account to HSBC by contacting the DD originator. Do them one by one, very carefully choosing the request date.
