Water damage repair bill ... outrageous

135

Comments

  • The invoice only states that the plumber charged £80 for the 1st visit and £115 for the 2nd.
I have to assume that this is an overall fee (VAT included)
As for the "supplies" I'm pretty certain that the repairman (who is their regular guy) had this stuff in his garage. I don't see how they can come up with £45 and then charge me VAT on top of that.
They have simply tallied all these costs and added VAT on top of the total.
  • Okay thanks Adrian ... I will take that to heart ... something I never dreamed of
    Walls without pictures
  • Walls without pictures is quite common for us youngsters. Generation Rent have things like houseplants, rugs and cushions to add colour rather than risking their deposits. Landlords don’t generally like you changing anything without permission. That and not wanting holes in the wall from your picture hooks or shelves when you leave.
  • Thanks banjo ... it's a strange new world

I’m in rented and we put picture on the fireplace and window sills.
wouldnt dream of altering the property in any way (for obvious reasons)
  • Okay = you guys are experts at stating the obvious ...
Picture / shelf = what's the difference in terms of a PINHOLE in the wall
Get some polyfilla and a little paint = boom = Bob's your uncle
Apparently some of you think I took a sledge-hammer to the wall

A shelf held up by a nail would quite quickly be lying on the ground with a load of plaster and rubble.

A little trickier if there is wallpaper or any colour other than white/ magnolia, and even then you can often see where the wall has been touched up. It's up to you to decide how reasonable your landlord may be about such defects upon you leaving the property - other posters have decided to err on the side of caution.
