Can a solicitor run the procedure for you for buying a property whilst you're overseas?

I have a simple question.
Hypothetically, if you are overseas, can you get a UK solicitor to run the procedure of buying a property for you (e.g. exchanging contracts etc.) whilst you are overseas? Is this possible? I'd assume he would ask for scanned copies of Passport + Proof of overseas address etc. but practically is it possible to be done?

I have done something like this when we bought our first house in 2006. However, we did have to attend the solicitor's offices in the UK in person one time with original ID documents. After that, we did everything online/via email. I think that for money laundering purposes such a check is unavoidable. In case you hadn't already worked it out - the entire global financial system is predicated on the assumption that you're an idiot:cool:0 -
Of course. There are thousands of overseas investors with property in the UK. And lots of people within the UK using solicitors at the other end of the country - pretty much everything can be done by phone / email / post. Though for certifying ID etc it can be helpful to have access to a local notary public or similar.0
