Do you know about ECOES?
Do you know your MPAN?
Do you know your MSN?
ECOES is the Electricity Central Online Enquiry Service
MPAN is the Meter Point Administration Number, (this is linked to your address)
MSN is the Meter Serial Number
ECOES is the central database for linking the MPAN to the MSN
Make sure you know that ECOES and your MPAN and your MSN are 100% accurate prior to any switch.
DO NOT go by these numbers on your bill, they could be wrong.
Get an ECOES printout from your current supplier and check the MPAN and MSN against your bills.
For example
Switch from supplier 1 to supplier 2 in 2010
Supplier 1 then states in 2017 that they are still the energy supplier because it says so on ECOES, (MPAN linked to the address and still shows supplier 1 because supplier 2 used wrong MPAN, never mind that ECOES was/is corrupt).
Doesn't matter that a switch was made.
Doesn't matter that Supplier 1 stopped billing in 2010.
Doesn't matter that Supplier 2 started billing in 2010.
If the "Computer says no, it says no"
So due to a corrupt ECOES, which was the responsibility of Supplier 1 in the first place, there is now an alleged debt for 26 months of electricity.
Even though you have absolutely no control whatsoever over the ECOES database it can be used against you if it wrong or even corrupt.
So just be careful and make sure that everything is correct on ECOES.
