More leg room

I am having a knee replacement op soon but when we go to Gran Canaria later in the year can I inform Ryanair’s I have had the op. Will they give me extra legroom seats or do I still pay . Thank you .

Your problem will be that as most (all?) extra legroom seats are at emergency exits then you will automatically rule yourself out of them. Your best bet is an aisle seat at the back of the aircraft where you can stretch your leg into the aisle to get some relief
  • Don't tell Ryanair anything !

Just buy an extra legroom seat if you are fit enough to operate an emergency exit.

Do not forget to tell your travel insurance company that you have had an operation.

There is always the chance they see you hobble up the stairs and tell you that you cant sit there of course.

Although it is time to be controversial.....I assume the 1957 in your username relates to your year of birth and therefore you are 63 or 64. People that age should not be allowed to sit in the exit rows full stop, in my opinion. I am sure we can have a sensible discussion about this....

Hmmm as someone who is in that age bracket I think you need to explain yourself.

........and, please be aware that I am big enough, fit enough and strong enough to be more than able to turn a bl**dy handle and open a door than lots of people half my age.

More people that age are going to be less able to help than people in their 20s, 30s and 40s. Nothing else to explain really.

On a personal level, if I am on a plane and its "going down" , I really dont want to see a row of 60-somethings in that row who could be a bit doddery. Obviously not all are, before you get offended. The OP probably would be with his dodgy knee!

What utterly ridiculous comments about the over 60s. There are plenty of totally unfit people of all ages, and that should be the main criteria for seating in emergency exit rows, not age.
To the OP, no airline is likely to take pity on you and give you extra legroom just because you have a dodgy knee. When you book, reserve an aisle seat on the side which will enable you to extend that leg into the aisle. That's what I do and I've never had an issue. Just keep your eyes open for the trolley coming down the aisle.

Glad we could have a sensible discussion about it ;)

Indeed, if anything they would do the total opposite for safety reasons (unless its a plane that has special extra legroom rows not on exit rows, and Ryanair dont have these)

If you said 93 or 94, I may agree with you.

People in their 60s, I doubt on average are any less able than a younger person. In fact, with more flying miles and life experience under their belt, they may be calmer in a crisis.

Maybe so. I certainly wouldnt want someone with a dodgy knee there though.
  • I'm 66 and I find your comments offensive. I go to the gym 5 mornings a week, we miles at weekends and on holidays. My best friend is 61 and she can out do anyone in her twice weekly spin class, she does body pump once a week and she swims 50 lengths every Sunday. Her husband is 71 and he does body pump twice a week, lifts heavy weights and has washboard abs, so no 60s is most definitely not an age limit to make a blanket statement about.
