I'm the opposite, a nice round mortgage payment and then tidy up the mortgage balance with small TT over the month.
Nice when you get a "free" OP boost with your annual statement!
If it's not adding up, compound it!

Great news about the new rate and lower monthly payments. I’d do the same as you round up OP! daily interest keeps changing my outstanding balance! @Lauraebrad
  • Another month - and it's sunny!!  I was, like many people I guess, very very ready for February to come after a long time since last pay day on 23rd December....
Have managed quite a big OP this month.  Part of it is down to having no water or Council Tax to pay in Feb (£130 total) and part is what I hope to be able to save by having a frugal February.  So £241 plus the last regular £49 OP adds up to a very big £290 for this month.
In other news I've booked a holiday last night - a week in a cottage with small boy and my parents for the last week in August.  We are their bubble as I'm a single parent household and we were very lucky to be able to go away with them in summer 2020.  My dad's just had his first vaccine and so fingers crossed by the end of August we will be able to enjoy a holiday.  It does mean I'll need to divert a bit more money to the holiday fund for a couple of months - hopefully a balance between that and the mortgage!
I've got an accountability challenge going in Feb with 3 of my friends to do something life giving for myself each day (i.e. 15 mins reading, a run, pilates, cooking a new meal).  Hopefully a cheap way to keep this month interesting, although knowing us it'll just mean more screen time wh@tsapping each other what we've been up to!

So another month begins.  This month's largish overpayment is courtesy of no Council Tax or Water bill so that won't happen again after March, but I have a feeling my energy bill is lower for 6 months of the year (Pure Pl@net) so hopefully will be able to makes some overpayments to the mortgage by keeping that effectively at the same level in my outgoings.
Feeling a little unsettled at the moment by plans taking place all around me as we move slowly towards freedom again.  Friends looking at moving house and knowing I'm unlikely ever to be able to do that (although feeling grateful for what I have of course), and then various friends trying to commit to events / activities / trips that I just don't have the mental capacity to plan for right now.  I've just sadly turned down a group trip to Mallorca for June 22 as I just can't organise my somewhat complicated life that far in advance!
Anyway - one thing I can do is short term mortgage plans.  This month I shall mostly be switching bank accounts again ....
    Happy March to all.

I empathise.  I have friends wanting to commit to plans and I just can't right now.  I feel awful but when we are less restricted I'll be prioritising all my time with my parents and grandparents!  I just can't think beyond being less restricted.  Let's wait and see what happens.  I worry people are carrying on like it is guaranteed.  PS.  LOVE your tracker! @Lauraebrad

@caeler Thanks!  I just need to remind myself that everyone's priorities are different.  Thanks - I love my house tracker too - I don't normally go in for the visual (more of a spreadsheet junkie) but it's really making me smile this year!

Whilst I love a good spreadsheet, you can't beat a good visual motivation, and it's something everyone can join in with, so doubles as a MSE teaching aid!😆
We're with you on the planning, just not interested in anything long term.
Don't think we'll be in a rush to restart public life (lol) too soon, but looking forward to seeing parents not seen in over a year in person.
    Take care, G
