7 months in garage

I bought a VW scirocco 2.0 tdi gt (125000 miles) in August 2019 from a dealership and after 3 months it brake down( all the coolant was going out on the exhaust). For 3 months it was in a garage but they were unable to find the issue but I've been told that I need a new engine at a cost of £2900.
The car was under warranty for 1 year and when I called the warranty company I've been told that they can't cover the cost as long as I can't tell them what's the exact foult with the engine.
I went back to the dealership asking for help, they sent me to another garage where they've got £1000 from the warranty but they asked me to provide the engine and they'll fit it.
I order the engine, re conditioned with 0 miles for £1200 and after they fit it they call and tell me that 2 sensors are missing from the car ( oxygen sensor and I don't know the 2nd one) blaming the previos garage for takeing/losing the sensors.I call the previos garage but they are telling me the sensors are not there which seems to be imposible as I had no error codes on the dashboard when I gave them the car but finally I paid for the sensors just to have my car done (they are still looking for them).
At the end, they fit the sensors, the new engine with a bill of £1700 just to tell me that the car is not working and may be another problem not the engine because the car is smoking havely(that was the issue at the beginning) but they also asked me to provide them another engine...on my cost.
So I paid 1200 for engine and they are asking for 1700 for labour but the car is not working and I'll have to provide another engine and pay them to fit it + all the cost for diagnostics and recovery truck.
Honestly I don't know the laws here but I don't think I'm treated fairly and I have no idea what can I do now, I'm not happy at all to spent more money for nothing.

Which garage did you return the car to ... the original selling dealer? If not, why didn't you report the issue to them? If yes, why are you letting them run you around?
Within 6 months from purchase, any fault that arises (taking into account age of the goods and price paid) is assumed to be inherent and it is for the seller to prove otherwise.0 -
First garage where I had my car was the only one available at that moment to take my car in, I couldn't aford to keep it on the recovery truck. And after that I move it where the seller asked me to...but looks like they just wanna take the money from labour as the only thing they is to.get another engine, they don't even try to find the problem.0

Unfortunately buying the engine yourself puts you in a bad position because you won't be entitled to a refund for it. You should never pay for parts yourself, you should always insist that the warranty company fixes the problem for you and if they need to identify the fault they can take it to a garage and pay to have the work done.0

I have 12 months warranty on the new engine and they accepted to replace it free of charge but I have to may the garage to take the old oane out and fit the new one and the warranty company won't pay anymore till I give them the exactly fault but all the diagnostics have to be paid by me, they will only step in when I found the problem.0
