manufacturing fault

so my nokia 8 has finally become a victim of the static half screen. was working perfectly, no warning at all. looking at online messageboards it seems like a known widespread issue & appears to be a common manufactured fault with these devices.
My warranty is just out (Nov 2019) I contacted nokia but as it's out of warranty will charge me for repairing. this doesnt seem fair though given its a known manufacturing issue. at one point they ran out of replacement screens due to volume of handsets that were being sent in for repair due to the issue.
is there any way i can argue that as it's their manufacturing flaw they should have a responsibility to repair it whether or not its outwith warranty period. I mean really the handsets should be been recalled to resolve the issue

Comments

  • Did they recall the handset? Cases online doesn’t necessarily mean there’s an issue, compared to how many handsets they have sold.

You can send them a nice polite letter .
But you have no rights re warranty as that is subject to the manufacturers T&C . Its not your consumer rights .

You'd need to get an independent report showing it was an inherent fault. This is probably extremely hard for things like phones as the tech involved is pretty advanced. However if you managed that then you can claim under your consumer rights (not warranty)

...which are against the retailer, not the manufacturer (unless of course that also happens to be the retailer).
