Waiting three days to exchange

Prehaps he knows something about the new build further up the chain and that it will likely lead to long delays in exchanging
He'd tell me if there was an issue (it's in his interest to) and I'm in direct contact with my vendors who don't know of any issues. I've also seen an email from my vendor's solicitor saying exchange is likely on Friday.
If long delays look imminent, I will exchange with my buyer.0 -

Life is full of what if's. For some reason you only exchange on the sale........0 -

You have already stated that selling and not losing your buyer is your number one priority. Sell .... and if it doesn't tie up, that's life.
For the record: I did that late last year, I had nothing to buy as I'd not found anything I liked ... still waiting, not happy at being in limbo (all belongings in storage) ... but I did the right thing.
You decided to sell.
Sell.
You want to sell.
IF ... you are inconvenienced for a short while afterwards that is NOTHING compared to all that nail-biting anxiety and worry you've suffered to this point.
Sell ... exchange, complete.... break the chain if necessary.0 -

So did we early in 2018, although fortunately we weren't in limbo for as long as PasturesNew. Our buyers hadn't been looking to move, but had missed out buying our house three years previously. If they hadn't got it this time they would have stayed put. There was no chain their end as they were keeping their existing house, but nonetheless they were desperately keen to secure ours.
We were moving long distance and had lost out on a couple of properties with land which was what we wanted. It hadn't been our intention to sell with nowhere to go - especially as we have two dogs and tons of large furniture/stuff
In the end though, we decided to complete on our sale and move in with family/put our worldly goods into storage.
In an exceptionally unusual and not-to-be-recommended move, our buyers offered for us to stay on in our old house for two weeks post completion. We then went to DS's for a further fortnight, during which time we managed to secure and complete on a repossessed cottage.
If it's taken you this long to get to this position, OP, I'd definitely break the chain.....Mortgage-free for fourteen years!

Thanks all. I have made the decision to exchange on my sale on Friday whether my purchase is ready or not. I've just heard from my solicitor that the buyer's solicitor hasn't even confirmed the proposed completion date yet, so the EA is getting really ahead of himself.0

Have you somewhere to stay and store your belongings if there's a gap in completion dates.0 -

Yes, all sorted. I'm freelance and single so it's much easier for me to arrange than for people with kids etc.0
