Round the coast of the UK in a motorhome

Me and my partner have both been granted some time off later this year (September/October) - I have 8 weeks and she has 6 - and are planning to travel the entire coast of the UK in our motorhome. Has anyone ever done this? It has been a dream for years, and an inheritance has granted our wish. In my usual frugal fashion I would like to do it as cheaply as possible, so if anyone has any hints, tips or experience then please feel.free to post below!

Six weeks doesn't sound that long - if it is 3000 miles that is 500 per week, which does not give a great deal of time to linger and really explore places.
Personally I would not try to do it all - you could divide it into chunks and do the bits you have missed in the following years.
How about doing the furthest away bits in your long break leaving the closer parts for other years with (presumably) shorter holidays?0 -
Yeah it sounds like an epic journey for 6 or even 8 weeks.
I would do as Paula says, do part of it. Choose your favourite areas and target them.
I think your biggest challenge will be finding parking. You may be having to look for campsites in some areas. I would definitely research into this as some places won't have any or decent camp sites. I would avoid large towns as a rule, unless there are any particular ones you want to visit. I've got to say the key thing is research, research, research!0 -

A real once in a lifetime, I am envious.
I think it sounds awesome, and September October, you are not going to struggle to find overnight parking at all.
I wish you would start a blog documenting your travels
I like the unknown, discovering things. If you over-do the research, you have done a virtual reality tour already.
Whenever we have done anything like this, I will research, but only to a degree. I am sure you will have hightlights of things you really want to see
I find it a real thrill not knowing where we will be sleeping that evening.
I wish you all the very best
VERY ENVIOUS LOLWith love, POSR0 -
In tourist areas a lot of laybys have notices prohibiting overnight parking or camping. I've no idea how much enforcement there is but it might be best to go to sites where you can get an electrical hook up and no risk of someone knocking on the door at 4am..0

Do what I do and and buy yourselves a pair of walking boots and a hikers tent, pick an area and see it properly. Some of the best gems along our coastlines are only accessible on foot. You can also stay true to MSE ethics and do a month for around £250pp even with the odd pub lunch in there. Also if you are carrying a bit of extra tonnage yourself you may well lose that along the way, win win. Also some places (you know where they are) are best visited on the bus that goes around the outside of them then you can pick up your coastal path again.0
