Not fit for purpose

Hi
I purchased an Indesit Fridge freezer 4 years ago a new model at the time with air cool technology. We insure all our white goods and have had an engineer out to repair it 4 times so far. The fridge does not remain cold for long periods and the frost free freezer part ices up completely. Can I claim that the fridge freezer is not fit for purpose?
I appreciate any advice you can give me.
Thank You
Cath

When did this first start. What does the engineer say is the problem?
  • As above, we'll need a bit more information to advise properly. On the face of it, you'll face an uphill struggle after four years but we don't know when it started, when you notified the retailer, whether they've been involved at any stage, what the terms of your warranty or insurance are, etc.

These fridge freezers are prone to icing up if either the fan does not come on or some have a flap that does not open when the fan runs.
But the first thing I would check is the drain hole that the condense water runs down. If this is blocked some appliances have the defrost heater under water and so ineffective.

Mines (not an indesit) freezes up when I have it jam packed and there isn't room for the air to circulate.

My old one (hotpoint - so related to indesit) used to freeze up, but that was (if memory serves) something to do with the compressor & fan - ice was building up on the outside or something like that which impeded the fan in some way. Switch off for a few hours and it would defrost enough to unfreeze.

I'd say 4 years for an indesit is good going, but I'd also say indesit is a low end model (looking online prices seem to range from £180-400 currently) so expectations should be tapered to that regard.
