    3rd January 20- 8431,29th January 20- 8250,whats that about?.Should the January 29th say 9250,instead of 8250?.Somethings definitely amiss somewhere.
  • Thanks for all your comments but I know that it was the hot water tank because I kept an eye on the meter to the point of checking it multiple times a day. I'm quite an anxious person, so when I get anxious, I obsess. So I had everything logged for weeks & as soon as the hot water tank electric was fixed it miraculously dropped back to a normal level the very next day.

Correlation does not imply causation.  It sounds like you are fooling yourself, clutching at straws rather than sorting out the basics.  If all that excess energy usage was really caused by dodgy wiring, something would have been white hot and burned down your house.
    • Did you switch off at the meter for a couple of hours and make sure the reading stayed exactly the same?
    • Are you on an Economy 7 tariff?
    • Is the immersion heater only running on the night rate, with any Boost switch turned off?
    • Are you sure your Dimplex Quantum is set correctly, e.g. it's not topping up using day rates for heating in the afternoon and evening?
    • Are you sending monthly meter readings?
    • Have you done a whole of the market comparison, based on annual kWh usage from actual meter readings, NOT estimates?  Start with Citizens Advice and 'Switch with Which?'.
If the answer to any of these is No, then when the dark evenings return... so will your high bills.

I'm afraid you are in for a shock in a couple of months time when you have to start using your heating again!
  • I will update you all in the winter.
I carried on using my heating after the hot water was fixed & my bills never went over £75 for that month.
    We'll see.

My guess it's an estimated bill, or it's an estimated bill with a correct reading as the final reading.

Have you been submitting regular meter readings to your supplier?

Yes, I give readings every month & I'm currently £127.09 ahead of myself because of the one ridiculous month's amount! Bulb won't let me pay less than £75.00 a month to build up a buffer for the winter.  But at least as winter comes round my payments won't be too scary.

That's the whole idea of paying by direct debit that you build up a credit balance during the summer months to use up over the winter months when your direct debit amount will be less than the amount of energy you are consuming.

It won't take long to use up that credit once winter sets in.
  • I don't think Bulb are that expensive if you use a lot of electricity. We use 11k kwh a year, mostly in winter because we've got a stupid electric aga which we turn on in winter. Their slightly higher standing charge than Yorkshire Energy plus their lower kwh charge made them marginally cheaper for me.
