Yes but someone will post that it will invalidate your insurance if they are not locked.
I spent hours going through our home insurance documents, no mention of locking windows, so we don't for the same reason as Peachy.

You usually get asked during the quote process If al windows have locks, not sure about a need to use them

Anyways people get hung up over it - when we lived “in the warzone” 10 years ago we got turbo ransacked with the front door unlocked in broad daylight and they stole some consoles and games - we were taking the bins out back. Insurance still laid out.

7 years ago I had 7 grand of camera gear stolen and I’d left one of those small upper windows on the latch for airflow as only small. A Baghead fed a kid through the hole who then found a key and opened front door. Insurance still paid out

Risk death in a fire because you've locked all your doors and windows and taken the keys away or risk losing materials things if your insurance won't pay out. I know what I'd rather.

  • Thanks again for the advice.

I forgot to mention that the quote includes replacing a small window next to our door also. I've spoken to a neighbour and a relative who have both replaced their front doors lately and our quote seem average for round here but we're going to try haggling but neither me or my partner are very good at it sadly.

Doorstop are cheaper but due to the even worse reviews of them on Trust Pilot we don't want to risk it but glad to hear you are pleased with yours. Wish we could afford Hormann but sadly that's out of our budget.

Haggle over email. You might find little movement in price but ask for extras - additional keys for example

Use a site like timbercompositedoors to build your door and see how the price compares

I would go for wood, i had a front door with all kinds of weather conditions and it lasted over 40 years, i stained it about three times in that stretch however. I think composite doors are good but more of a gimmick and defo not worth the price, my most recent wooden door cost £280 inc vat but you will be lucky to get a composte for under a grand!
