Pip+ESA +Pension

I am 60 this year and do not work due to I'll Health, I am on Pip +ESA . I have about £16.000 in my Pension fund and if I take all my Pension out to put in my savings account will this make a Difference to my Pip and ESA payments , help me please

  • I believe PiP is non-means tested, so will not be affected by your Pension/savings.

ESA is more problematic...do you know what type of ESA you are on?..is it income related ...or contribution based?...if income related then anything over £6000 will result in ESA deductions...and over £16000 will mean no ESA.

As Prinzessilein says, PIP is not means tested, entitlement is based solely on how your health affects you. Taking your pension money will make no difference.

As she also says you need to understand how your ESA is made up in order to be able to say if it will make a difference.

How much savings do you already have?

Are you also claiming Housing Benefit and/or Council Tax Reduction?
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.
  • Due to my Illness and unfit for work on my ESA I have been placed in a support group , I also claim house benefits and council tax benefits, I have no savings
  • Don't forget you may have some tax to pay on the taxable element of your pension.

That doesn't help us know which ESA you're claiming, is it Contributions based, Income Related or both? If you don't know then you'll need to ring DWP and ask.
