Hi,
Am on Universal Credit/Intensive Work Search.
Trying to find out where I stand financially coming to the realisation a number of this month's bills will default, appreciate I could be a victim of my success as I've accepted to start work tomorrow - sorry was going to ask questions at Job Centre but on route to my appointment this morning they called and cancelled (they said my Work Coach wasn't in the building) and so I can't be seen today.
I was going to ask whether it is possible if I do get any benefit in the 3 weeks since I started claim. I'd read somewhere it might zero out?
Does anyone know.
The job centre said when I first went in about grabbing an advance but I left it as the system wasn't intending to tell me until 14th Feb so it seemed daft and now I've got a job.
I've got a full tank of fuel, paid council tax in full for this month as they wrote me a letter after I applied for council tax reduction that they needed to see my award first, got food in the cupboards and for cat so I'm hoping things will be ok.

It depends when you will first get paid. Your UC entitlement is based on earnings received within the assessment period. If you are just starting a job and are paid monthly your first payment may be after the end of the assessment period, depending on when you started the claim. If so there will be no earnings taken into account and you will get a full UC payment.
Congratulations on getting the job.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.1 -
Many thanks for this guidance.
My last wages were 20th Dec covering until 31st Dec, I started a claim on the 12th Jan so thinking I’ll be ok as my new employer (rather small co) just confirm payday arrangements as ‘by the 28th of a month’.
In the end as an update,
I decided to apply for an advance and seemingly been successful (it certainly was the lifeline I thought didn’t exist) for a payment of £317.82 on the 12th Feb choosing to repay back over 4 months at this moment in time. On Tuesday I also saw the JC had booked another appointment for the 18th Feb and as a telephone appt.0 -
No, it’s just dawned on me why the heck would I be paying back a whole month’s worth of Universal Credit when I spent 3 weeks as a claimant. 😕 keep calm is confused . com - ignore me!0

UC works on monthly assessment periods. Therefore you don’t spend 3 weeks on UC. Your entitlement is assessed over a period of one month based on your situation at the end of the month and the income you have received during that period.
if your assessment period is 12th Jan to 11th Feb your UC payment will be due on the 18th February. If your wages are paid after the 11th February they will have no impact on your UC entitlement for that month. (If on the other hand you were paid on 11th February this could result in a nil entitlement.)

Thanks I’m trying to understand.
I think I know why they want the advance repaid and that is because when I received the pay out yesterday, my award statement also become available 48 hours before it was due telling me they plan to pay another £317 (exactly and no pence) come the 18th Feb so I feel I’ve royally messed this up but guess it will get sorted.
I recall the job centre saying about the real time hmrc fields which is making me slightly nervous as I work for a really small company who haven’t offered new starter form or asked for p45 though have taken bank details.
I’m hoping I get paid last week of the month by them.0
