O/S Daily Monday 03 February 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
DH up and gone to work stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work and I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and ok.
Dark and damp start to the day, air feels cooler too.
Lunch yesterday was a joint of pork from the half a pig I've bought with MIL, it was delicious, we had it with all the normal extras - roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, swede, peas, yorkshires and gravy - there are some LO's so they will become either tonight or Wednesday night's dinner. Tonight we'll be having fish - scampi, chips and beans for the menfolk, I'll have baked fish and veg.
Yesterday we were quite chilled, we visited my parents as we hadn't had time on Saturday afternoon, due to the heating engineer coming to sort out heating thermostat - (which now appear to be working) and DH's parents needed me to do some jobs for them on the computer - all done.
Back to work today - we'll see if the technology is working!
Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks NMLC.
After a decent sleep Saturday night, last night was the worst night ever. I couldn't get to sleep and when I eventually did I woke up after a bad dream and the after effects wouldn't leave me. Then the strong winds arrived and the noise was spooking Sparkle who was leaping around everywhere. Now I feel like a wet rag and Sparkle is, of course, now fast asleep!
I haven't been out of the door all weekend so I might get the bus along the valley bottom to the little market town a few miles along and hope it blows the cobwebs away. No shopping needed but it's nice to browse in the shops we haven't got!
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need/want of them. Take care all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
Thank you nmlc for starting us off and fingers crossed your technology behaves itself today for you.
I had a rubbish night's sleep so gave up and came downstairs around 5ish. I weighed myself as usual for a Monday and I have lost 3lb this week which takes me to my first stone gone this year. I am very pleased with that, it almost makes up for the lack of sleep.
I'm waiting for one of the kids or Steve to get up as I need them to get the slow cooker down from the top of the fridge, I am too vertically challenged to reach it myself. I am planning on making a Lamb Tagine from the Hairy Dieter's first cookbook for dinner. At least I can get all the ingredients chopped and ready while I am waiting.
The dogs need a bath today as they are very pongy. I will wash their bedding as well so the living room will no longer smell of Eau de Pooch. There are lots of niggly little jobs that need doing as well like the bins need emptying etc. Lee has college this morning but Phoebe is home until later so I will ask her to give me a hand. I also want to have a chat with her as she seems stressed, her tics are more obvious and she was pacing in her room for hours last night. I hope she will be ok.
Lee's alarm has just gone off so he will be downstairs in a minute or so. I will go and put the kettle on for him and make myself some porridge for breakfast. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning All
Haven't managed to get on here, I have a poorly laptop (which is working beautifully this morning!) and DS1 and the DGC have been here for the weekend. We had a great time, with a 4th birthday lunch for DGS on Saturday and swimming yesterday. They are great fun but really quite exhausting!
RR - So sorry to hear you are having a rough time, at least it sounds like the Police are on the ball.
We've had rain for days now and today doesn't look any better, quite cold too. I'm going to DS2s at the weekend, hope the weather's better there.
Have a happy Monday, take care. XX0 -
Good morning,
damp here, seems cold. Thanks for starting NMLC, hope work goes OK.
I sympathise TA about your bad night. I fell asleep on the sofa yesterday afternoon after a similar night on Saturday. Funny how a high wind makes cats gallop about, I've noticed it when we had cats.
Dumpling you've had a bad night as well, there's a few of us on here who don't sleep well. Hope you manage a chat with Phoebe.
RR, your DD's ex is giving you a bad time, hope you're all ok.
We had a busy day on Saturday, The shed is now up thank heavens - Ds, Dgs and Dh managed it on Saturday. The strong wind didn't help though. Didn't do a lot yesterday apart from completely emptying the old shed, it still had a few things in, then DH took it to bits, Who knew that a new shed would cause all this commotion!!
I've got a hospital appointment this morning, the Dgd will be here for her tea as usual.
Hope everyone has a good day.
Take care folks0 -
Good morning everyone and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.
I have lots ofwork to do today, a report to finish. I've done quite a lot of it but the problem is not what to put in but how - I think there is something not quite right with the template sent to me.
Had a busy weekend but although today and probably tomorrow will be busy, I'll then have a few days of freedom.
RR I was sad to see that your DD's ex is still behaving so poorly.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone.
High winds here too with heavy rain promised for later. I slept well apart from two comfort breaks.
This morning I need to visit DM's building society and that's about it so I can crack on with slowly clearing out the computer room. The flooring will be lifted back about 1.5m (four feet) from the window across the whole width of the room. Friends will be coming to move furniture so I'm doing books (lots and lots), paintings off the walls (lots) all the ornaments too. Oh, and a bit of decluttering / shredding as I go along.
I hope that everyone has a peaceful and happy Monday.0 -
Morning all
So glad its Monday we have had an awful weekend we had to have our ex guide dog put to sleep yesterday and it was heart breaking she deserved so much more time after 7 and a half years as a guide dog 1 year in retirement wasn't enough we are all heart broken . I have lots of calls to make today and appointments to cancel for her at the vets and groomers sort out the food order i have delivered and cancel her kennel bookings and let the microchip company know we had to go the emergency vet on Saturday.
OK Dolly walked and fed DW is whirring away .Dinner tonight is leftover pork loin and veg . I need to do some housework and change the beds
Have a great day whatever you are up to xxSlava Ukraini0 -
Posted, edited, all went peculiar so deleted! Try again!
Gers, you were right about me yesterday. Reading won over finishing jobs. No surprise there!
TA/ Scarlet Ribbons It's not just cats who go daft in high winds. Children do too. I used to hate high winds when I was still working.
Bella. Such sad news. A short retirement for a special dog. Those phone calls will be difficult, I'm sure, but she was lucky to have that time with you.
Yoga today, then lunch with friend who's coming to yoga for the first time. Then postponed jobs this afternoon. No reading allowed until they're done!
Happy Monday, everyone0 -
Happy Monday!
I had a nice weekend, a really nice and productive weekend. On Saturday, I treated myself to a coffee and a scone at a local cafe I hadn't tried but looks nice - and it was! This is in keeping with my new determination to read more, so I need to take myself to somewhere without the distractions and what better way to do that than with a nice cappuccino and a scone with clotted cream and jam! That set much of the tone of my weekend, where I looked after myself and got my affairs in order, mostly.
A verrry busy week ahead, with Tuesday to Thursday spent in London with something like 19 meetings booked across that time. As for today, I've been to the gym this morning and I might pop in after work (to make up for that scone I had!). Not sure what else I'll get up to. Perhaps I'll ready my book!
Dumpling - Well done you!
Bella - So sorry to hear about your doggy. They're just part of the family really.0 -
Morning all,
Windy here too. I think I'll stay in today in the warm, there are always jobs to do, some paperwork and bills to pay for DH first, then my craft area in our bedroom needs reorganising and the bathroom cupboard.
Yesterday we decided to go and have a sandwich and cake in a new cafe on the way to our friends, which was very nice. Of course then we didnt feel like our tea until later but that didnt matter as the men were watching football.
Bellabella I'm so sorry to hear about your dog. As you say it doesn't seem right that she had only a year in retirement but I'm sure you gave her the best possible while she was with you. It's always horrible to lose a pet. Hugs
Dumpling, thats a good weight loss in just over a month, well done! I wish I could bath our pooch, but she's just too big, she has to make do with the hose pipe outside and a bucket of warm after. She hates it, I think it's a bit too chilly as well so we are stuck wit h Eau de pooch for a bit too.
Right better get on, those jobs won't do themselves. Take care x:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. (Eleanor Roosevelt)0
