The old boiler had an off/on switch this boiler simply has a dial for heating and a dial for hot water no buttons no timer no thermostat no on/off controls just 2 dials.
So you never had a timer or thermostat?

What make and model of boiler is it, that it doesn't have a power switch...?
When the dial for heating is turned all the way down it still gives off a heat of 25 degrees[/qutoe]
Yes, the "temperature" dial on a boiler is the temperature of the water that's being heated.
In answer to why I would consider a civil suit the fact he sent an engineer that left a gas leak for a week that could of killed both me and my child.
You can't sue for "But it might". It didn't.

By all means, report this fitter to GasSafe.
The fact I've been stuck rinsing my gas since the 18th as stated above I cannot turn off the heating at all. It's always heating the rads slightly
    ...while turned on...

Exactly the same as your old one. The difference is that you were used to relying on the power switch, but you don't know where it is on this one.

OP Why not post the name and model number, so that others can give you more advice on boiler control setup?
