P45 from previous employer

Hi,

I just wanted some quick advice regarding my P45. I'm starting a new job in another week's time and they require my P45 and P60. I've rang up my previous employer and they told me I had 90 days to access my P45 when leaving the job which I obviously did not think doing as they did not mention P45s were ready to access.

I also enquired about P60 but they just ignored my request. They have offered to create a statement of earnings instead but not sure if my new employer will accept this.

Any advice regarding this issue will be greatly appreciated?

With no P45 the new employer will use the emergency tax code of 1250LM until HMRC tell them differently. If the old employer correctly took you off the books it should all work itself out in a month or so. Why do they need the P60 as that is only relevant to last tax year ?

No P45 is no big deal. Your new employer should give you a 'new starter checklist' to complete as soon as you begin working for them. If they don't, just ask them for one.

The only reason for requesting a P60 (which will relate to 5 April 2019) would be to confirm that your earnings in the previous (2018-19) tax year tally with whatever figure you claimed. Does that sound likely?

As already mentioned, your P60 is for the last tax year. You should have received it in April or May, depending on how efficient your payroll people are. If your new employer wants to know what you earned 6 April 2018 to 5 April 2019 then the statement of earnings should be sufficient. (However, if Payroll had been willing to provide a duplicate P60 they can do that but they can't provide another P45. But do they really only provide online access to P45 forms?)
