Hi all,

I'm just wondering if any of you have any experience of trying your cats with dog food?

I'm asking as my two monkeys only seem to like the orange tins of Butchers cat food, but it is increasingly hard to get where I am. However Butchers dog food seems to be quite easy to get hold of.

Is there much difference really?

Thanks,
Elisheba

I don't think dog food has the correct nutrients that cats need really would not advise it
  • Cats and dogs have different requirements.

Time to start introducing other brands into their diet, mix it in and slowly change the ratio until they are on 100% of the new stuff.

Dog food doesn't contain enough Taurine for cats & a lack of Taurine will make cats ill over time!

Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!
  • Definitely don't feed exclusively dog food to cats for the reasons mentioned above. Have you tried ordering the butchers cat food online?

No!! Definitely not! Dog food isn't nutritionally balanced for cats, and it will ultimately make them ill.
As another poster suggested, mix in a new food bit by bit until they are on a new food type, or get it online - there are lots of pet shops online, and I can't believe that they will all be twice the price; any supermarket with an online presence will be selling it at the same price for starters. Zooplus tend to price cat food very well, they are my go-to online pet shop.
    Good luck!

You can order butchers cat food from Amazon if that helps.

Thanks, WolfSong. Unfortunately it's double the price for some reason!

Pets at Home often do an offer of 48 cans of Classic cat food (Butchers) for 20 quid. I stock up when it's on offer and get it delivered.
