That ban didn't come in until 1st June 2019, OP started renting in August 2018(potentially as a lodger at this point and a full and equal tenant in October 2018) so the fees were still allowed at the time.
Also OP couldn't afford the fees so the other tenant loaned the £240 and paid on their behalf on the agreement that she would be paid back, only £200 of the £240 has been paid back so it is the other tenant they owe the money to and not the letting agent.0 -
If the claim was issued on the 2nd of December what defence have you submitted?(exactly)0

Can ypu clarify exactly what the tenancy agreement you signed says about rent.
Also clarify exactly what was agreed, hopefully in writing (please quote) between you and housemate about costs for utiliies etc.0
