Blue badge-2 drivers?

Options
Hi all

Just been awarded a blue badge for our 9yr old autistic son, which is great.

However, as the badge is his, we only get the one, for his use. Fair enough

But there's lots of occasions when my wife drops him off somewhere and I pick him up, or vice versa. If she has the badge, I can't use it, if I have it, she can't, if we give it to our son, then it's not displayed in the car while he's being dropped off or collected.

I'm sure we're not the only ones to be in this situation. So how do other people deal with this situation?

Thanks

Brighty

That's an excellent question. I don't know if there is any possibility of a duplicate (and I doubt it, to be honest) but is it at all possible to give the badge to someone responsible where your son has been dropped off, then get it from them when he's picked up? I don't know whether you're parking in public places when this happens, in which case it maybe wouldn't help, but if you're parking somewhere privately owned where they know you (perhaps school, or for appointments where they have their own car park) would they allow whomever is picking him up to park without displaying the badge until they've got it from whomever is looking after it there?

Just a thought. I've had this issue potentially crop up for myself (someone different dropping me off and picking me up) but have managed to avoid it by rearranging appointments. As this is a frequent issue for you it sounds like that workaround simply isn't possible.
  • The blue badge belongs to your son so I hope there is a way it can be left with him (school office etc) for the other one to use when he is picked up. If the office look after it perhaps setup a sign in out system with yourselves and the school and find a place it can be locked away

We have also had this problem and got a ticket for not displaying the BB while collecting it from the holder in a hospital car park.  Don't think there is a way round it though.
We did contact PALS and got it cancelled.

Except the issue is the person picking up is then parking in a disabled bay without displaying the blue badge.

Get there two mins earlier, park in a general bay, go get the badge, move the car, pick up child.
