Japan plan for April?

4 of us had planned to go to Japan in April - none of us have travelled in Asia before.
We haven’t booked anything yet but need to do it within the next week before flight prices go up.
Is this a crazy idea? Can anyone advise about insurance and how we cover the risk of coronavirus making travel difficult or impossible - especially when we would be booking in full knowledge there could be a problem?

Are you aware that April is cherry blossom season so it could already be very very expensive?0

Yes, cherry blossom is part of the appeal - plus I’m a teacher so limited by school holidays and July/August are 30 degree heat and the Olympics!0

I'd put it off for a year with the recent coronavirus scare. I wouldn't be planning on holidaying anywhere in east asia until more is known.
But that's just me.0 -

Wow! I always have craze to spend time in cherry blossom season in Japan, and yes, for sure, it could be a brilliant idea. The flights charge high rates in June and July if you travel to Japan and April is the cheapest month to fly. I would suggest you to book your hotel, flight and car etc as soon as possible and you shouldn't miss this venture. I usually use TripAdvisor or Greatest Traveler to check hotel deals and flights rates in this regard.
On the other hand, if you have weak health or any medical issue then you should reconsider your plan due to coronavirus. Yes, as Japan is near to China that's why we can't ignore such things. Hopefully, airlines are doing their best to avoid this viral contamination. But prevention is a must. In the same token, if this issue stays then there are chances of decrement in the flight prices in my opinion.0 -

Although I'm living in Singapore.
But have cancelled a holiday in Penang in7 days time. It's your money. Except if it's the governments.0 -

If the flu was causing complete lockdowns of entire cities in a neighbouring country and if that flu had a mortality rate of 20x more than the average flu - then yes, I wouldn't travel anywhere near there.
There's the added factor that I don't believe the chinese authorities as far as I could throw them and think that they are not announcing the full extent of the virus. I'm reasonably confident there is a lot we aren't getting told.
You can take a holiday any year0
