Car Insurance - which provider do I contact?

Good Evening MSE Community

I’m hoping someone can help me with an issue.
I had a fairly minor accident in January of 2019, I was at fault. I passed on my details, and contacted my insurer (Hastings) that day to inform them of all the details, what happened from my point of view, the other drivers details etc, and told them I was at fault. They said they would handle it. I didn’t hear from them again, and assumed it was dealt with. 7 months later when I came to renew I was unsurprised to see that they had greatly increased my annual premium. So I shopped around a bit and decided to go with another provider (Provident). I informed provident of the ‘at fault’ claim, and the date it happened. I have record of this, and paid a fee which reflected it.

Fast forward another 6 months, and I have just received a letter through the post from the other drivers insurance, requesting payment for repairs at the value of £1.3k, and if I don’t send payment within 7 days they will commence court proceedings.

I wish to obviously get this resolved before any court proceedings. I had assumed my insurance had already paid out. Which insurance provider to I need to contact, and should I respond to the letter?

Thanks very much for any help you can give,
PS my first post - looking forward to being part of the community

  • Contact the company you were insured with at the time of the accident. They should have dealt with it
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

  • Thank you, that’s great. Should I reply to the letter to inform the other party I’m dealing with it.
  • Get in touch with your old insurer first.

There is something odd as it should have been dealt with long ago.
