Unable to apply for savings accounts

Options
My wife is unable to open any savings accounts online and fails saying we need more info. Unfortunately the items they want we do not have, basically she has no passport (neither do i for that matter), she has no driving licence, no debt etc.

She has an online post office savings account which she has had for 2 years,ie opened 2 accounts, one each year for the bonus and problem free and the bonus ran out this month.
Tried to open a new one and fails asking for proof of ID using some of the above, in fact all of the items they ask for we do not have. Yet she is an existing customer, the process to open a new account logs you out of their site and you start fresh.

Applied to Ford Money from this site and same, they wont accept online statements as proof either. So a real pickle.

Tried credit cards to help boost and they also fail, ie capitalone they want the proof we do not have. I guess CTax demand will be here in 3 months but thats 3 months away.

Registered for credit club here and fails on experian check stage 3. So tried credit karma and has a good rating nearly 700 but nowt else.

So I put her as a card holder on my tesco credit card. It came today and noticed it has the same main number, same CVV code and same pin but in her name. I assume if she uses this it will eventually help and show on her credit file or will it appear on my file as its my account ?

Seems she is a nobody in the financial world, even though she has savings.

Thanks

If having a driving licence helps, then get a provisional licence.

Your wife doesn't have to take driving lessons.

Some companies can be flexible if you call them and explain the situation.

I faced the same problem when trying to open a savings account with Marcus for my elderly mother (for whom I held Power of Attorney) who similarly had none of the accepted forms of ID, having sent back her driving licence a few years earlier when she stopped driving.

They suggested that I send them a scanned copy of her birth certificate, which I did (you can do it online with Marcus), without any further problems.

As second card-holder - nothing will show on her records - she's just an authorised (by you) extension of your own account. You're the one responsible for paying it - so it's only your details that get recorded with the CRA's.

I seem to recall most financial institutions don't accept provisional licences as ID, only full licences.

Is it not easier to get some formal ID such as a passport.?

There must be other scenarios which she would benefit from having ID in too?
  • thanks All

    Will check out Marcus

So when you called them which other documents did they say they would accept? You did call them?

They'll take last year's bill. See above.
  • This happened to me around 3 years ago, i kept getting turned down for products which i applied for so bit by bit i started getting all of my ID together and now i have a folder full of ID and paperwork for when problems like this occur i would recommend doing the same.

P.S: Having her as an additional card holder on your accounts means nothing as it won't show on her credit score, it just allows her to have access to your money,

    Regards,
