I again stressed my unwillingness to proceed with consulting my husband, she informed me that as well as the discount I only needed to pay £55 (£11 pp) to secure the holiday and the remainder to be paid in December.

Did she say the remainder of the HOLIDAY to be paid in December, or the remainder of the DEPOSIT? If it was the remainder of the deposit then you were probably made aware at the time of booking. The company will have a recorded copy of the conversation, ask for a copy of that.

That is a good point but as the holiday isnt until Oct 08 my guess is that the OP would have been told that the remainder of the deposit was due in Dec.(or at least that is what should have been said). The Op would not have to be paying the full balance 11 months before departure
  • all i was told i would loose at most was £55 pound if i booked it now and had to cancel it! The agent was due to clock off and could only hold the discounted price for 30 mins while she was there. After that time the whole discount price would be lost.
  • After Writting War and Peace it appears that i was right. The company concerned are decent after all. We had a reply from them today, they have managed to trace the call and can confirm that the cancellation fee's where not explained to us on that call and the cancellation fees have been reduced down to £11 per person. Result i would say.

Glad to know you got it sorted! Go on; name the company involved now. Enough companies get slated here day in day out, its worth knowing that sometimes they do get it right and they aren't all bad. (unless of course you really really don't want to name them?)
