Sky Tv equipment old and failing & slow internet

Sky+ HD equipment is years old and out of warranty. Satellite dish is rusty and antenna broken. Not aligned properly and freezes up when turning on (have to unplug at wall) and can't access sky1 hd or channel 5 most days. Sky hub is slow and drops out a lot (DL 4mbps / UL 0.5mbps)

Currently paying per month -
£48.50 Sky Tv (basic HD)
£19.50 Sky unlimited broadband
£20.95 TalkTalk Line rental

It will cost £60-£80 for sky engineer call out for sky so I'm just thinking of cancelling it all and starting over. (All contracts have gone past minimum period)

Seems to be a lot of money for what is a rubbish service..
I would like fiber broadband. virgin isn't available in the area.

Any suggestions?

Well if your dish isn't aligned properly and your "antenna" is broken (I presume you mean the LNB) you will have signal and box issues. A rusty satellite dish can affect signal but this is a symptom of age, not an issue with Sky, anything metalic left out in all weathers will eventually go rusty, that's physics for you.

None of that is Sky's fault that your dish has gone rusty. Replace the dish and LNB and your signal problems will be solved.

The internet may be a Sky issue but more depends on where you live.

Why are you paying two separate companies for phone and internet? Either shift the line to Sky or shift the broadband to TalkTalk, that'll save you a fortune.
And you may be able to save on your Sky subscription if you move to Entertainment and come off the Basic package, this will require a new contract though.

The issues with the dish (I presume you own the dish and this isn't a communal dish) are fixable and the Sky cost is all in regardless of whether they rip the lot out and start again or just replace one bit, in your case it sounds like a new dish and LNB is needed.

I presume you have told Sky that you have signal issues before this post? And that your internet is below par? Or have you put up with this for months?
  • Do sky now include the landline? When i signed up they didn't.
I was with Tesco landline and then they switched it to talktalk when taken over.

I did enquirer about my problems but they just tried to make me buy a new box plus installation fees.

If i could change my current £20 broadband to fiber with sky line rental included and cancel talktalk
and replace the box and dish free of charge since I'm paying for a service not their equipment, I'd be happy.

Sky have offered line rental for a number of years. You can check the possible options here https://www.sky.com/shop/broadband-talk/

The cheapest thing to do for the TV would be get the dish and LNB sorted., won't be free though.
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

Since you're on Sky+HD they will actively encourage migration to SkyQ, this will get you a new LNB (and if they see the state of the dish they'll probably replace that too). However if you ask nicely they should be able to do a discount on the call out fee if you're happy to recontract even on Sky+HD.

Note that you do not own the equipment (the Sky box) on Q, you are renting it. Therefore if you cancel after 12/18 months it needs to go back to Sky.

I had an old Sky HD box, nothing wrong with it, but I fancied a Q box, so rang Sky to see what they could offer me, they not only sent an engineer to install it, they replaced my dish, and put me on a cheaper package which strangely included more channels. So it was a win win situation. The Sky Q boxes are on loan so if they go wrong you get replacement for free. Even the remote can be replaced free of charge if faulty.

He/she almost certainly wasn’t an engineer.

I re contracted to Sky a few weeks ago, superfast broadband line rental and anytime calls for £29 a month on 18 month contract.
Managed to get basic SKY TV for £14 a month with 2 SKY Q boxes which I now have to wait for an engineer to install. Engineer also looks at dish to check its OK. Also get the WIFI boost guarantee as we have issues in 1 room so hopefully this will fix the issue
