Dry eyes

I am taking eye drops for dry eyes which is a great help, the doctor also told me to bathe eyes with a hot cloth.
I am now finding I have red and flaky eyelids and under eyes.
I am using moisturiser but skin around eyes feels tight.
I am told its a common condition and wonders if anyone has any help.
Thank you

use eyebag rather than hot cloth
  • I find gel for dry eyes is better than drops, the effect seems to last longer. GP prescribed Clinitas Carbomer Gel. If you have dry eyes as a clinical condition, i.e. not going to get better soon, you may feel you should use it regularly, to avoid eyes getting dry in the first place. Hope you are keeping OK,it is surprising how ill you can feel with uncomfortable eyes.

I agree with the eye gel suggestion. I suffer dry eyes and find this the best.

thank you yes that is the on I have been prescribed on a repeat so that does not look good!
Its actually Blepharitis which means I have to wash eyelashes with baby shampoo a bit of a faff but hoping it helps.
Thank you for your kind words...much appreciated
  • I had (or have - it comes and goes) blepharitis. I didn't find the hot cloth treatment did much for me, but using lacrilube at night helps, as does washing your eyelashes with blephasol if you get crusty eyelids.

My optician suggested I purchase an Optase Moist Heat mask to use twice a day for 10 minutes. It's heated in the microwave before applying. It is very relaxing and really helps to moisturise my eyes. I'm a contact lens wearer so I do this before and after wearing.

I also carry Blink eye drops to use as and when needed (also very good).
    somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's
  • I can't afford the wipes for my crusty eye, so when I take off the tape in the morning I wipe with tissue, then bathe with soothe eye drops, then wipe again and smooth a little aloe vera vaeline on both eyelids. It's very soothing and helps to remove crust bits and guk that gathers overnight.
In the summer I'm also a fan of carboma gel - quite cheap online and very soothing if kept in the fridge. xx

I use Vaseline and find that really good for the dry skin.
I am fortunate my doctor put the eye gel drops on repeat as i am over 60 I know I am fortunate to get free prescriptions.

Thank you all for your tips....much appreciated
  • I suffer from blepharitis as well. It's related to rosacea - in fact sometimes called rosacea of the eyes.

If you wear make-up it might be infected so you may need to change it and any applicators.

I find using an eye mask that you heat in the microwave is great. Put it on for 10 mins morning and night. I use the optase one (you can wash them gently in baby shampoo). I then use the optase wipes to clean the lids. You gently use them to massage in small circles around the socket. Then drops - some are better than others.

Dry eyes can lead to weaknesses - I had a tear in the retina which is caused by dry eyes

It might be worth a visit to the optician so that they can check what's going on. They may then recommend antibiotic eye drops which you can get over the counter.
