O/S Daily Friday 31 January 2020

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Dark and air doesn't feel as cold.

DH and DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge. DS2 settled and happy.

Dinner last night for the menfolk, was pie and chips, I had dinner out with my colleagues and it was lovely - good company too, lots of laughter. Dinner tonight will be just DS1 and myself as DH has a late finish, and won't want anything too much, possibly some scrambled egg.

Yesterday I got done what I wanted, so this morning I'll be heading out to do the food shop first thing, getting it all unpacked then heading to the butcher at 11am ish to collect the half a pig I've ordered - hope it's good value.

Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks. Very mild this morning but what strong winds we had last night. I could hear lots of wheelies blowing over.

Up at even sillier o'clock this morning thanks to Sparkley Cat who hasn't yet learned to tell the time. I have put my time to good use by doing the end of month banking. Pension day at last! It's good to see some money going in the accounts rather than out of it. This has been a very expensive month.

The two younger DGDs ended up staying after all last night, after DD and elder DGD's late return from the theatre , so they will be to rouse, feed and water shortly ready for the school run.

Once peace reigns I will start the dreaded Friday Tidy. I forgot to put the DW on last night so that's now doing its thing. There will be washing to do too at some point. Busy day.

Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all in need of them. Take care all xx

    Good morning everyone :hello:

Change of plans here, my bestie messaged me last night to say her husband was full of cold and as he has copd he was really quite poorly. They still wanted to come over for a coffee but I had to postpone it as I am immuno-compromised and the last thing I need is to catch their bugs. It's a shame but they completely understood so I don't feel guilty.

Woohoo, it's finally the day we get our UC payment. Half of it has already gone though on rent and bills. There will be a few cheap meals made this month to stretch out the pennies. Luckily I love things like liver and onions and am also quite happy with beans on toast, hmmm, maybe not beans after yesterday's tummy explosions :rotfl:. Anyway, I know we can still eat well even though the ingredients don't cost a lot.

I was looking at a youtube demo of the new electronic Sizzix diecutter coming out in May. It was very impressive until they said the price...£259 :eek: Blimey, I think I will carry on with my BigShot for a while longer.

I hear Lee's alarm going off so I will go and put the kettle on for his cup of tea before he goes to college. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to and if it's your Payday, don't spend it all at once :). Take care xx

    Morning folks.

Already it feels very mild outside. Yesterday the wind got wilder as the afternoon progressed. I was very glad to be indoors.

I spent the evening doing more shredding so now there's two large bags of the stuff to go to the tip. The latest batch has been income tax papers dating back to 1981! DM has lost her enthusiasm for it because she reads every piece of paper which tires her though I will plough on with what I can.

    Happy Friday to all.

    Morning all

Cold here but I cant see what the weather is doing yet its hopefully dry.

Off to work for me but its Friday thank goodness !! There is wine in the fridge, and we may have homemade pizza or maube a cheeky takeaway if we feel like it.

DD's Pup was sick last night after having chicken as treats at doggie training (dd had bought it fresh and cooked it so it was ok) this is the second time she has done this, so we googled it and lots of dogs are allergic to chicken!! who knew !! we are cutting it out of her diet for a week and will see what happens.

DW will go on this morning and I will empty it tonight.

    Have good days all xx

    Hi everyone,

After waking all week at 5am I finally had a better night, although was woken by a cold call at 7.30, grrr.

Gers, I feel your pain, a few years ago I made Steve toss his bank statements which he had kept since he first opened an account in 1974. He also had boxes of computer code he'd written in the 1970's and early 80's on big sheets of paper - written in binary - all 0s and 1s so it wasn't even readable to the normal person.

I went to the physio on Wednesday for my shoulder. It seemed to be a private outfit, although paid for by the NHS so that's probably why it only took 2 weeks to get an appointment. Anyway, he said it wasn't frozen shoulder (he said GPs tend to call all shoulder problems that) but tendonitis and gave me some stretching exercises. They're quite painful to do so I hope they help, i have to go back in a month.

My laptop is making very odd noises, Steve thinks the sound card might be going but I hope not, I'll try ebooting ad see if that does anything.
  • Good morning and happy Friday everyone!

A gorgeous pink sky this morning, a lovely sight.

I left work sharpish yesterday as I had a relatively busy evening. I had 2 phone calls scheduled with recruitment agencies but only 1 called - they've nothing for me at the moment but will keep me updated - I then went to the gym for my 'quickie', home to quickly make dinner (salmon and pea puree, very nice indeed) and then my catch up with my gran and then my mum, before an hour of TV and bed.

Up and at them this morning at the gym with a very busy day ahead, so I'm going to keep it short.

My weekend is without plans apart from seeing The Girl From Chester tomorrow night at hers. She's still quite unwell, so we might grab some food and just chill out, which is fine by me.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Gers - Impressive organisation! Keep up the good work.
Snoozer - who cold calls at 7.30? Thats madness! Be sure to block the number.
  • Good morning, it's mild here, and that strong wind has dropped thank heavens.

Just as well you postponed your friend's visit Dumpling, you certainly don't need any infections.

TA, what is it about these daft cats, racing about at ridiculous times! of course they sleep when the feel like it and don't suffer from insomnia.

Didn't know dogs were allergic to chicken RR, poor little thing.

Yesterday was an ok day, DH was absorbed in sorting out bits of new shed, and I went to card making in the afternoon, and we had a pleasnt session. I learned how to make "shaker" cards, those cards with glitter or sequins behind a window in the card, very pretty.

I'm going to collect a parcel today and will do a bit of shopping, and there's a couple of friends coming round tonight.

That's my day - hope evryone has a good Friday.
    Take care folks.

  • Morning all and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.

I wasn't here yesterday as I was tired and unsettled after a vicious nightmare - I kept waking up and hoping it would go away but it started again each time I went back to sleep. Last night was not much better with another one though not as nasty. If I have good dreams, I don't remember them.

It is a bit warmer today but very grey and rain is forecast so I'm going to get on with some work and then tackle the Friday Tidy in a half-hearted way.

I hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

Morning all! Up early (for me) but also went to bed early after knackering myself out filling the boot for the tip and emptying with the help of a very kind neighbour about a third of the shed. Much wood has gone to burn and to the tip and three broken washing machines and a bed are waiting for the scrappy.

Wouldn't have been so bad if the condensation hadn't dripped over half the stuff because at least then it would have been salvageable.
Time for bagels now. I'm waiting in for the charity to show up but I don't know what time they are coming.
Hope you all have a good day, good call dumpling, well done Gers! Hope the car learns soon TA, AOD, why is it the nightmares that start again and not the nice ones! Frenetic Friday!

Girls walked and fed weather a bit grey but not too cold . Well today is the big day I dont think we will see much difference for a year or so but just a reminder to those of us with pets they say there may be some fireworks tonight
The blind man is coming so we will have some privacy and also it makes the conservatory more secure.
Dinner tonight will be bits n bobs from the freezer
Taff sounds like another busy day I am lucky my mum had a big clear out a year or two ago lots of bits to auction or charity
AOD I hope you manage to have a peaceful nap during the day
Ruby you would be surprised how many dogs are allergic to chicken and grains can also make them itchy
Gers glad you are making headway
Right bit of a tidy up then freezer diving for tea . Have a great day whatever you are up to x
