Also be aware that it could be a mistake by the court, and the fee has been paid but the court have overlooked it. In which case, once it is pointed out, the hearing will be back on, but maybe at a new date.

Another possibility is that the Claimant will pay the fee and plead with the court to reinstate the case.

Sorry to be posting a dampener, but just pointing out possibilities.
I hope I am wrong, but don't throw away all your paperwork just yet.

OK but if they don't strike it out, you still need to write a WS & serve evidence, before the hearing.  :)
    Hi guys,
@Coupon-mad and @KeithP you were right! it seems the case had been struck out by error... it has now been reinstated and I have a new hearing date.
I now have to write a WS, but I'm not sure how different it is to the statement of defense? My understanding is that it is more factual, that I say "I" instead of the "Defendent" and that it includes the evidence. But do I keep the same structure as the statement of defence?
If you can refer me to any precedents that would be ace.
    Many thanks!

Examples in the NEWBIES FAQ sticky, second post.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

As pointed out by @Umkomaas the place to start is the NEWBIE sticky.  A defence is a set of legal and technical arguments whilst a witness statement is a narrative written, as you say, in the first person and is "in support of a defence as already filed" and is therefore meant to back up and support the defence.  You also refer to evidence that you will provide
