The ppiteam

I hope this helps someone.

The ppiteam cold called my elderly grandma last year. To cut a long story short she received £2500 ppi back from her bank with ppiteam asking for a 1200 fee.

I immediately thought this strange as the max fee was 25% it was just by luck I was at her house when she received the letter from them.

I followed this up with them as she was adamant she had never signed a contract with them.

I eventually made a complaint to them and they have replied today to say they have closed her case and she owes no money.

I'm sure she isn't the only person who this company have took extortionate fees from without any signed contract.

I imagine it will be too late for most but if anyone did read this company please check to ensure you signed a contract with them stating their fee. And if their fee was over 25% and the contract was after mid 2018 they have taken too much and I'm sure you can claim the excess back.

For the sake of a couple of emails I've saved her £1200 (which she is buying some new curtains with 😂)

Surely the bank would not have acted with the claims co had they not had the customers signature?.
Or, is the bank wrong for doing it without?.

    she received £2500 ppi back

Did she really get £2,500 PPI back or was that the complete refund including statutory interest?

If she got statutory interest then tax should have been deducted and depending on her personal income tax position she may be entitled to claim some of the tax back from HMRC.

They will have an electronic signature, but Banks do need to be more stringent on the checks they make on such when they are submitted by Claims Companies. The firm concerned was well known for offering a "free" PPI check which, if agreed to, then morphed into a full blown complaint. This firm also seems to have history producing an inflated bill well over the 20% fee cap going by the OP's other threads on the subject.

Yes sorry £2500 was the gross figure then she paid tax on that amount so got just over £2000 I think. I will look into it, but I presume if she earns more than her tax code via her pension then she won't be entitled to a tax refund

    Thanks

Sorry, yes she signed a letter of authority allowing the bank to share info. But never signed anything else agreeing to the company charging her a fee. The LOA form she signed had nothing about a contract etc with the company.
