Insuring a Lease Car

Options
Hi

Recently leased my first car (I have driven a company vehicle for 15 years) and also its for the Mrs to use and not me. I had to do this as finance is not an option for her

I have a couple of questions:

1) Can I put her down as the proposer and main driver? Doing this would mean the premiums are around £200 cheaper

2) The vehicle owner and registered owner is the lease company and not me???

Thanks

I think you should ask the lease and the insurance company what is OK

Either one might not be keen to have an insurance policy taken out by someone who essentially has no connection to the lease.
    Is this PCH?

Also, from memory when i did my last insurance, its not 'registered owner" its "registered keeper" that would be you surely?

Yes it is a PCH - lease monthly payments for 2 years and give car back to lease company.

I guess I could put her as the proposer and me as a second driver

The lease company will likely need it to be insured in the leaseholders name

Suggest you read the terms and conditions of the lease. As above I can't see you being permitted to insure it in your wife's name

I very much doubt you can. Ask the lease company. Also, my understanding is the proposer is the person taking out the policy. So you cannot "put her down " as the proposer. OK you might do the form filling but legally it will be her being the proposer and taking out the insurance contract. Something I doubt the lease company will be happy with. Look at the Ts&Cs Id expect them to say that You should insure it.

Contact the Lease company or read the contract would be my first port of calls.
