Hi
Whilst looking for something else I saw a bleepingcomputer tutorial about enabling Win10 tamper protection security.
Is this a good thing to do?
I have malwarebytes installed and it says that it should not affect things but obviously it only works for Win10 and not any third party av

If you'd read the article carefully it says:
"If Tamper Protection is not currently enabled on your Windows 10 device, Microsoft has told BleepingComputer that they will be rolling out this change to all Windows 10 users. It may take a few days, though, before it becomes enabled automatically for everyone."
The article is dated October 2019. Its probably safe to assume its already on if you use Defender.0 -
Hi, @Neil Jones - only saw the tutorial and not the article so did not see that part.
Just gone through their tutorial now to check and it was showing as Off.
It correctly says I am using other antivirus provider, so I followed the tutorial and clicked on the 'Windows Defender antivirus options' and enabled the 'periodic scanning'.
I then went back and enabled the tamper protection.
Real time protection is showing as 'Off' in Security/Virus and threat protection. Is this because malwarebytes is on instead of Windows Defender antivirus?
Thanks

Yes because you shouldn't have multiple real-time protection systems on from software that does the same job (ie two anti-virus scanners), because all that'll happen is they'll spend more time fighting with each other than anything else.
Defender is the exception as it won't enable the real-time scan when you have something else but it'll do its other work like the Tamper where it doesn't need to scan anything.0 -
I use Win defender and just checked and Tamper protection was 'off'.Neil_Jones wrote: »If you'd read the article carefully it says:

My malwarebytes premium trial ended today, so I am back on the free version.
As the mwb 'real-time' protection has now ceased Windows Defender immediately warned me to switch this on, which is good. The tamper protection is still on too, and obviously the periodic scanning is no longer showing.
Warning to anyone reverting to malwarebytes free to check your settings as the 'scan for rootkits' option was turned OFF in the Security tab.

If you delete/uninstall your MWB and then download and re install it I think you can then get the choice of using MWB Premium. My malwarebytes premium trial ended today, so I am back on the free version.
